Blas Gonzalez

Composer, Performer

Biography

Blas González is a composer and pianist resident in Auckland. Originally from Argentina, and subsequently a student in USA, he pursued composition studies parallel to obtaining Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Piano Performance. His composition teachers were Juan Carlos Zorzi and Guillermo Pozzati in Argentina, and Mark Phillips, André Gribou and James Mobberley in USA.

While in New Zealand he deepened his interest in composition by repeatedly participating as a performer and composer in the Nelson Composers Workshop. He also had music played by the collective The Committee, the Aroha String Quartet and harpist Helen Webby. His piece In the Threshold of Definition received Merit Prize in the New Zealand Harp Society Composition Competition.

Blas has established a piano teaching studio in Auckland, where he lives with his wife and two children.
