Jason Erskine

Composer

Biography

Jason Erskine studied sonic arts at the New Zealand School of Music, and writes and performs in Wellington's two gamelan ensembles. Jason also records and mixes records with artists in wide ranging genres as the owner-operator of Barong Mixing and Mastering. Jason has worked with Bridget Johnson; Phil Dadson; Gamelan Taniwha Jaya & Gamelan Padhang Moncar; Minuit; Upper Hutt Posse (Māori Album of the Year Nomination NZ Music Awards); film-maker Laura Honey; Raw Collective; Jack Hooker; D:UNK Live and many more.

Erskine is the drummer for the band, Hex, whose sound fuses punk, folk, rock, and classical music. In their own terms, it’s ‘witch-rock’. Hex’s recent album, The Hill Temple was released in February 2018 and has garnered significant support from international music media. September 2018 sees the band embark on another American tour.

He is currently a junior audio engineer with Wellington-based game developer, Pik Pok.
