About

Harris’s Symphony No.5 is in seven movements, two Adagios and two Scherzos surrounding three short and rather simple songs based on texts by the Hungarian poet Panni Palásti. The poems are based on Palásti's experiences as a 10 year old in Budapest in 1944.

Commissioned note

Commissioned by the Auckland Philharmonia and funded by Christopher Marshall.

This is the fourth major work of Ross Harris that Christopher Marshall has paid for.
