This concert represents the culmination of the 2009 SOUNZtender fundraising project. Five generous commissioners, five inspired composers, five exciting new works and five top New Zealand performers come together for one extraordinary concert.

The concert is extraordinary not only in that it completes the creative cycle of commissioner, composer, new work, performer and audience but also in the sheer musical talent represented.

The commissioners, composers, works and performers are:
  Barry Margan and Eve de Castro-Robinson
    “and the garden was full of voices” played by Gao Ping (piano)

  Christopher Marshall and Chris Gendall
     Suite for String Quartet performed by The New Zealand String Quartet

   Wellington Chamber Music Society and Ross Harris
    Four Laments for Solo Clarinet performed by Phil Green

   Jack C. Richards and John Psathas
      Songs for Simon performed by Donald Nicolson (piano)

  Helen Kominik and Gillian Whitehead
     TÅ«manako: Journey through an unknown landscape performed by Diedre Irons (piano)
