About
Pour les Deux Messieurs de Paris pays homage to Francis Poulenc and Erik Satie. It was inspired by Poulenc’s Sonata for two clarinets, also scored for Bb and A clarinets. The two parts are each based on pentatonic scales, one a semitone apart from the other. Pentatonic scales make for open euphonic lines, while the juxtaposition of chromatically adjacent scales creates a range of consonant and dissonant harmonic options.
