The Close Shave/Strike The Gay Harp is a track from Bob’s second solo album Island Mist.
The Close Shave is a re-write of a couple of traditional songs, which I set in the gold fields of the West Coast in the late nineteenth century. It was picked up by leading Irish balladeer Andy Irvine (Planxty, Patrick Street) and consequently has been performed at major folk festivals and concerts around the world. As well being recorded by himself, it has also been recorded by bands in the US, England and Europe and has received radio airplay in those countries as well.
