About

A dramatic improvised entrance to St Mary of the Angels marked the beginning of ‘Te Ao Hou | This New World’, a concert presented by the New Zealand Festival of taonga pūoro exponent Rob Thorne and the New Zealand String Quartet. The title reflects the poem by Vincent Olsen-Reeder for which the concert was named (this was recited in English and Te Reo at the start of the work) and the ceremonial qualities of the entrance - ‘Whakariterite’ means to make a way and prepare with prayer, to negotiate a path forward.

Co-composed by Rob Thorne, the New Zealand String Quartet and Dr Vincent Olsen-Reeder.
