Music to the Rescue

Concert

Proceeds from this fund-raising concert will go towards the rebuilding of the Mianyang Art College of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music which was badly damaged in the disastrous earthquake earlier this year.

The concert will feature New Zealand musicians and alumni of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, including pianist/composer Gao Ping, composer and organiser Shen Nalin, Qu Yong, Denny Liu, Claire Macfarlane, Su Yi, Charley Davenport, Xingxing Wang, Jun Bouterey-Ishido, Eshian Teo, Hu Guang and Ling (Sonia) Green.

The program of concert is varied and includes three works that receive their NZ premiere: Gao Ping's Questioning the Mountains for violin and piano (2008), The Mountains for two pianos, and Shen Nalin's Water net for soprano and quartet (1984/2003).

Organiser and composer Nalin Shen says: "This concert offers patrons the chance to enjoy this great music as part of a highly concentrated experience rather than as a series of dispersed one-off recitals. This is a rare opportunity to eavesdrop on musician's work as they examine aspects of piano technique and musical interpretation."

And a great way to support a worthy cause....

The organisers plan to repeat this fundraising concert in Christchurch and Auckland at times and dates to be advised.
