“Zing! goes the cymbal. Bang! goes the drum…” Come and explore the magic world of Margaret Mahy with Opus Orchestra! A treat for children of all ages, this short concert features favourite poems and stories by iconic New Zealand author, Margaret Mahy, set to music by composer Philip Norman.

The first in an exciting pair of short interactive concerts, Mahy Magic is an early afternoon delight specially created for children and families. Favourite poems and stories by the beloved New Zealand writer are set to music by award-winning composer Philip Norman. ‘The Tin Can Band’, ‘The Lion in the Meadow’ and ‘Flingamingo Tango’ are just a few of the Margaret Mahy gems Norman has delightfully brought to life through original compositions.

Be entertained by narrative and interactive performances from New Zealander’s Georgia Jamieson Emms and Robert Tucker. Classical soprano, singer, teacher, librettist and founder of Wanderlust Opera, Georgia sang professionally in Germany. Opera fans may have seen Baritone Robert most recently in the highly regarded New Zealand Opera production of Eight Songs for a Mad King. Robert was an Emerging Performer at the Australian Opera Studio in 2005 and is a current Freemasons Opera Scholar with New Zealand Opera.
