Amosa Lene

Composer, Moana Pacific Composer

Born: 1997

Biography

Amosa Lene is a young Samoan composer and pianist who works actively in the community in Samoa. In recent years, he has collaborated intimately with National University of Samoa (NUS) music tutors, holding public classical piano performances and performing in different settings. Several of his compositions have been performed at NUS’s annual concerts including 'One Solitary Life' (NUS Easter concert), where a Samoan operatic piece for soprano that he composed was performed by soprano Rosaivitilesaualofa Solomona (a recording of this piece, Vi’i a le Masina can be found on Spotify), and ‘Beautiful September’ (NUS Annual September concert) in 2023, where a piano composition of his was performed live and accompanied by interpretive dancing by the NUS Dance group.

Amosa also has extensive experience in choir work, having been a church pianist for many years. He has also taught various Samoan methodist choirs in Samoa and New Zealand many of his own choral compositions including Viiga 9 and a tune he composed for 'Hymn 273' in the Samoan Methodist Hymn Book (SMHB), which he first taught to Vaitele Uta Methodist Choir in Samoa.

As well as composing his own music for piano, strings, and choirs, Amosa finds great joy in re-arranging old, classic Samoan songs (both traditional and non-traditional), incorporating more modern-sounding chord progressions and voicing, with strong influences from Jazz and Gospel music. Instances of these can be found all over his TikTok account, which you are strongly encouraged to browse. Some of his compositions are also on multiple streaming platforms including Spotify and Youtube.
