About

‘Concerning stillness’ could have two meanings: a) ‘about stillness’, or b) a stillness that is concerning.

The ticking-over of ruminating thoughts.

The march – or is it a waltz? – of the mind when one attempts to meditate.

Technical note for performer: the dynamics above the stave pertain to the upper line of the music, for example to bring out the left-hand pizzicati above the bowed notes.

Commissioned note

Commissioned by The Committee, for their 2014 project 'New Music For Old Instruments'.

Dedication note

For Polly Sussex.

Contents note

One continuous movement.
