Programme Note
Pokarekare Ana is probably the best known Maori song. There continues to be some dispute over who exactly wrote the original version. One account of the writing suggests it was written by a lovelorn young man who had been refused permission to to marry his loved one. This arrangement was based on another arrangement made some years previously and it is included in the album Four NZ Maori Songs.
