Programme Note
Whilst studying at Goldsmith College, University of London, I began to enjoy Japanese Haiku. The book “The Mountain Poems of Stonehouse” made a very strong impression and as a result I wrote the music for a very short song entitled Alone. The words of the poem are so simple and charming:
The cranes call
As they cross to the reeds,
Faint and helpless,
Now I lie alone.
And yet there is a hint of sadness…
