This is the first of a series of six electroacoustic works based on field recordings made in Indonesia, in the case of this work, the evocation vocal and instrumental sounds of street hawkers. “Music dari Jalan” was awarded first prize at the 1976 Bourges Competition for electroacoustic music and in 1992 received the Disc d’or as one of the ten most highly acclaimed prize winners over 25 years.
