About

Svitac is the Bosnian word for firefly. I have always been fascinated with bioluminescence. I remember being obsessed with the fireflies I encountered on a holiday in Croatia when I was little. The clarinet part makes use of microtonal trills and soft, wailing glissandi. The accompaniment is intended for an upright piano in order to obtain a soft and sustained (though slightly unstable) tone with the use of the practice pedal. Svitac was written for clarinettist Ellen Deverall.
