About

This short choral work sets a text from James K Baxter's radio play Jack Winter's Dream. The setting was commissioned as part of a set of pieces for a stage production of the play devised and produced at Mercury Bay Area School, Whitianga. The song itself is sung by two characters (Trevelyan and Jenny) in the play. This choral setting was requested so that the school's choir EMBAS could perform it in the Secondary Schools Choral Festival. The alternation of male and female vocalists is largely retained in this version, with the other choral parts filling out the harmonies.

The True Dead Speak was commissioned by Ley Macassey and Mercury Bay Area School, with funding provided by the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.
