Winners of GIMC

The 28th Gisborne International Music Competition final took place last weekend.

The overall winner is 16 year old violinist Yebin Yoo, from South Korea/Australia, who also won the Pultron Composites Award For the best performance of a work by a New Zealand composer for her performance of Gyftiko by John Psathas.

Yoo currently studies at the Australian National Academy of Music.

Violinist Natalia Harvey, who also played Psathas’s Gyftiko in the final, won the third prize.

The Gisborne International Music Competition is open to all players of orchestral instruments aged between 16 and 25 years. Competitors are asked to submit a 45-55 minute of balanced, contrasting programme comprising a minimum of three different works from at least two different musical periods.
