The BIG SING & NZCT Chamber Music Contest

The BIG SING and the NZCT Chamber Music Contest offer prizes for the best performance of a New Zealand work, including the Statham Award, which gives $400 at each district contest of the NZCT Chamber Music Contest, and $1000 at the national final.  Each contest also runs a section for the best original composition.

NZCT Chamber Music Contest

Statham Award
2011 was the first year of the Statham Award - sponsored by Auckland composer Keith Statham.  The award is given for the best performance of a New Zealand work - $400 at each district contest, $1000 at the national final.

Original Composition Award
This is awarded to the winner of the Original Composition section of the contest.  The winner will receive a SOUNZ prize of $500 cash and a one year subscription to CANZ (Composer's Association of New Zealand).  The winning piece will also be performed at the National Final.

The BIG SING

The Hutt City Trophy
This trophy, presented in The BIG SING Finale, is awarded for the best performance of a New Zealand composition.

The Auahi Kore Maori Performance Award
Also presented in The BIG SING Finale, this is award is for the best performance of a work using Maori text.  This award is provided by the Health Sponsorship Council, Te Ropu Whakatairanga Hauora.

Composition Award
This competition, introduced by NZCF to mark the third millennium, with a trophy presented by NZCF Auckland Region, is run in conjunction with The BIG SING National Finale and SOUNZ, and awards a monetary prize for the best choral piece composed by a New Zealand secondary school student.
