CD

“Accordatura” is Italian for standard tuning of violin strings: g-d’-a’-e’’.

Scordatura is the tuning of string to non-standard pitches. Prosser’s earlier work (e.g. Six Meditations 1988 Waiteata Press; Pacific 1995 Kauri Music) was for scordatura violin. It explored the distinctive resonances of various tuning.

The focus here, however, is on standard tuning using the sound from open strings as platform for duos, studies and tunes. Birds Reply to Bartok: 44 Violin Duos were based on traditional East European melodies. Studies I includes 110 Studies, and 86 are played in this album. Studies II explores the different characteristics of numbers. Tunes includes works inspired by field recordings of traditional violin music from former USSR and countries behind the ‘Iron-Curtain’.
