  • Programme Note

Extensive incidental music for large orchestra, this work was written for a spectacular, Pacific-based, music-theatre production of Shakespeare’s play. The 23 musical numbers include dances, songs and extended dramatic scenes. Awarded the Press critic’s Best of the Year – again – this very large score contains a wealth of variety. As the reviewer noted: “The music provided many surprises, from the tribal drumming with the Samoan slap dance – to the effortless ease with which the violinist wandered out of the very visible orchestra.’ The mix of traditional orchestral instruments and those from the Pacific, including conch shells, added to the exotic atmosphere. This was indeed the stuff that dreams are made of.”
