Clocking On

 Year: 2002
for keyboard instrument

  • Programme Note

The term “clocking on” is used in factories (perhaps even only British factories) for when workers come to work and have their card punched by a machine which tells the factory owner when the person started work. This piece is, therefore, meant to be played metronomically correct, the right hand in the opening dictating a crisp, precise delivery, which is later passed on to the left hand. One should sense the ticking of a clock at bar 11 onwards through the right hand quaver figure.
