The New Zealand String Quartet embark on a short tour of three US destinations. While details are still being finalised, they will include Gillian Whitehead’s Puhake ki te rangi (“spouting to the sky”) for string quartet and taonga puoro (played by Richard Nunns) in their programme.

This concert is part of the highly prestigious Concerts from the Library of Congress series. These concerts date from 1925through the visionary patronage of Elizabeth Coolidge. the Coolidge Auditorium has become world-famous for its magnificent acoustics and for the calibre of the artists and ensembles that have played there. Names like Leonard Bernstein, Leopold Stokowski, the Juilliard String Quartet, Stephen Sondheim, Joshua Bell, Leontyne Price and the Beaux Arts Trio have, over the years, given the venue its world-wide reputation. To that we now can add the NZSQ, Richard Nunns and Gillian Whitehead.
