Bach Musica 2008 Subscription Concert 2

11 May 2008 5:00 PM

This concert features one of Bach’s masterpieces, his triumphant Easter Oratorio. Three trumpets and timpani support the dance-like and joyful choruses and provide a wonderful contrast to the expressive solo arias featuring solo flute and solo oboe d’amore.

The programme also includes: Mozart’s energetic Te Deum Laudamus written in Salzburg in 1769 when he was only 13 years old; Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op.3 No.2 , a beautiful festive work, full of memorable melodies; and David Hamilton’s Invocation. Originally written in 2001 and intended to be a work celebrating the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, the final version of Invocation (revised for Bach Musica in 2008) is a general anthem of praise and rejoicing, scored for choir and orchestra.

Soloists include soprano Morag Atchison, mezzo-soprano Penny Watson, tenor Iain Tetley and bass Edward Scorgie.
