Concerto Aoraki

17 March 2006 12:00 AM

This was the premier performance of this violin concerto by Christopher Blake. The performance featured violinist Natalia Lomeiko (Michael Hill International Violin Competition winner 2003) as soloist.

Auckland composer and reviewer Rod Biss points out:

“As a composer Chris Blake has always been fascinated by New Zealand subjects; he looks into stories of our past, is inspired by the landscape or the art of the country. The new Violin Concerto, Aoraki, is no exception. Commissioned by Christ’s College to commemorate 150 years of the school’s history, Blake says that it also tells the history of New Zealand from early struggles as a new nation through the challenges of adolescence and finally to the attainment of a resilient and resourceful maturity."

It is in three movements entitled, Journeys, Remembrances and Discoveries.
