SOUNZ Community Commission 2016
Deadline: 29 April 2016
The SOUNZ Community Commission is made available through the generosity of an anonymous donor and is administered by SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music.
The SOUNZ Community Commission aims to bring together New Zealand professional composers and community groups to create and perform a new work. It was established in 1999 and has resulted in works for diverse groups such as recorder choir, experimental sound artists and children’s theatre.
The commission consists of a grant of $1,500, which is awarded to a professional composer to enable them to engage with a community group he/she has not worked with before. The aim is to support a collaborative process between the composer and a community group and to create a series of resources based on the experiences of the two parties involved. A further $1000 is available for the successful group to hold a public performance or concert for the resulting work.
Call for Submissions
Suggestions for projects from NZ composers, who are not in full-time employment or studying, should be sent to SOUNZ by 5pm Friday 29 April 2016. All applications are forwarded to the anonymous donor, who chooses which project will receive the grant. The selected project will be announced in June 2016.
The attached form must be accompanied with your application, which should include:
- a biography and CV of the composer
- a description of the community group
- a description of the project including at least one planned performance or concert
- outline of how the composer will work with the community group
The commissioning fee will be available as soon as the recipient is selected and the work is to be completed and performance scheduled in 2016, with a performance completed by 31 May 2017. A score and/or recording of the work will lodged with SOUNZ, and SOUNZ licence or publishing arranged so that it can be performed by similar groups in the future.
Further information, including a list of previous SOUNZ Community Commissions, can be found on the SOUNZ website www.sounz.org.nz.
