Spirit Weapons

15 November 2010 8:00 PM

Geomancy, Chinese calligraphy and archaeology understood as the buried and subterranean architecture of a world taken into the afterlife – all of these influences and provide the inspiration for Liza Lim’s ecstatic composition Spirit Weapons for solo cello and The Quickening for voice and guqin.

Tonight’s programme features the brilliant Australian vocalist Deborah Kayser and also includes texts and readings by poet Yang Lian, compositions by Newton Armstrong, Michael Finnissy and Jeroen Speak.

ELISION ensemble performers include Deborah Kayser (soprano); Richard Haynes (clarinet in E-flat); Peter Neville (percussion); Séverine Ballon (cello), Newton Armstrong (electronics) and a guqin player to be confirmed.
