Musicircus Wellington

20 November 2010 5:00 PM
20 November 2010 7:00 PM

Musicircus Wellington will recreate, for the first time in New Zealand, the amazing experience around music, diversity and chaos first convened by John Cage in 1967.

During the Blow | Exposure Festival of the Massey Creative Campus in Wellington, more than a hundred musicians and performers from different backgrounds will get together to play whatever they want in any way they want, simultaneously, to produce an unimaginable sea of sound.

Something between a musical fair and a carnival, Musicircus Wellington will celebrate the complexity of society and our multicultural roots during a two-hour musical event that goes far beyond sound. The organisers have asked the musicians to indicate what kind of music they will play during Musicircus Wellington so as to achieve the most diverse range of styles, ensuring each performance is unique in its musical palette. Expect everything from bagpipes, gamelan and throatsinging to taonga puoro, rock bands, cellos and jew’s harp.

Examples of a 2008 Musicircus set in Chile can be viewed (and heard) here or here. This Wellington event will also be recorded to make a feature length documentary!

For more information (or to participate) Contact the organiser Jaime Cortes or follow through facebook.
