Echoes of War

19 August 2010 8:00 PM

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by Marko Letonja.

Reflecting on themes of love and loss in the Great War, this concert pairs Elgar’s haunting Cello Concerto, performed by one of Scandinavia’s leading young cellists – Andreas Brantelid – with the fierce lyricism of Ross Harris’ powerful Symphony No.2 , the 2008 SOUNZ Contemporary Award winner.

Madeleine Pierard, for whom Ross’ symphony was written, returns for the APO’s second performance of this critically acclaimed New Zealand work.

The programme opens with the enigmatic The Unanswered Question by American composer Charles Ives.
