10 May 2010 1:00 PM

Not long after the saxophone was invented in 1841, French composer Berlioz described it as “deep and calm, passionate, dreamy, melancholic, like an echo of an echo”.

Widely regarded as New Zealand’s foremost saxophone ensemble, Saxcess perform an eclectic mix of jazz, classical and cutting edge contemporary, with style and panache. In this concert for the 2010 ERUPT Taupo Festival they premiere two new commissions: one from Kenneth Young with funding support from Creative New Zealand, and the other from Lucy Mulgan. The concert will be held in The Crater Room, a unique purpose-built cabaret and music venue, with tiered cabaret-style seating and table service, within the Great Lake Centre.
