The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Tom Woods, present the first concert in their 2010 Lamb & Hayward Masterworks series.

The programme opens with John Psathas’ Luminous, written for the Millennium Fanfare series of commissions from the Auckland Philharmonia. This is followed by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No.3, Gift of Dreams in which John Chen will be the soloist. The second half is devoted to Tchaikovsky’s Manifred Symphony, a “a huge virtuoso orchestral showcase, based on Lord Byron’s radical poem”.
