NZTrio: CMNZ National Tour

18 April 2010
4 May 2010

NZTrio presents two diverse programme in their 10-centre 2010 National Tour for Chamber Music New Zealand.

Both programmes will include new works: one from ex-pat New Zealand composer Judy Bailey, and the other by Australian composer Stuart Greenbaum.

Stuart’s The year without a summer will be premiered in the first concert of their tour, Hamilton. The work is a result of the 2009 Trans-Tasman Composer Exchange that Stuart and NZTrio have been engaged in since September 2009. NZTrio will play this work throughout the tour and will take it to the Aurora Festival in Australia in May. It is likely that Stuart will also attend the premiere and Auckland performances.

Judy Bailey was presented with the Distinguished Services to Australian Music Award in the 2008 Australian Classical Music Awards for her ‘instrumental role in the development of contemporary jazz in Australia and the fusion of the classical and jazz genres.’ The new work, called So Many Rivers, will also be played in each concert of this tour, and was a commission by NZTrio and Chamber Music New Zealand, with funding from Creative New Zealand.

The remaining works on the programmes are either Mozart, Schumann (Piano Trio No. 1) and Arvo Part or Turina, Schumann (Piano Trio No. 2) and Jennifer Higdon (USA).
