Music in the Eye

6 March 2010
7 March 2010

This exhibition of graphic scores, curated by intermedia artist Phil Dadson, is based on a similar event at the New Zealand, New Music Festival in Edinburgh, 2001 where graphic scores from Lyell Cresswell, Mark Langford and Phil were exhibited.

On that occasion, Phil wrote: “Since the beginning of notated music in the West scores have held a visual fascination, both for the appreciation of a musical language, and for the written symbols, as embodiments of the sounds they represent… One of the great artist-musicians of the 20th Century, Paul Klee…is quoted as saying, that to draw is to take a line for a walk. This exhibition presents the work of three New Zealand composers who regularly return to graphics as a way of taking a line for a song and dance.”

This exhibition is part of the 2010 New Zealand International Arts Festival Chamber Music Weekend.
