An extravaganza not to be missed!

This is a concert (repeated tomorrow night) of new music for gamelan in combination with an assortment of wonderful and rarely heard instruments including the sheng (Chinese mouth organ), gambus (Indonesian lute), guzheng (Chinese zither) along with traditional Western classical instruments.

The concerts will feature newly composed works by:
Jack Body and Wayan Yudane (collaborative work), Helen Bowater, Irwansjah Harahap, John Psathas, Ross Harris, Gareth Farr.

Performers will include: Wang Zheng-Ting (China/Australia) on Chinese sheng (mouth organ); Irwansyah Harahap ( Indonesia ) on Indonesian gambus (lute); Rithaony Hutajulu ( Indonesia ) vocal; NZ String Quartet, as well as Gamelan Padhang Moncar and Gamelan Taniwha Jaya.

This programme is being curated by Jack Body to celebrate his 30 years of teaching at Victoria University/NZSM. Jack has had a long fascination with Indonesian gamelan, and some of his compositions show its influence. He has lectured at Victoria University/NZSM since 1980. Prior to that (1976-77) he was a guest lecturer at the Akademic Musik Indonesia in Yogyakarta.
