Trans-Tasman Composer ExchangeAwarded: 2005 |
Award Information
The Australian Music Centre, in collaboration with SOUNZ: the Centre for New Zealand Music, established the Trans-Tasman composer exchange residency in 2003 to further develop music relationships between the two countries.
Each year one composer from either New Zealand or Australia is awarded the residency, which offers significant opportunities to spend between six weeks and two months with a leading professional performing ensemble in the host country. The collaboration enables artists to develop a new work and participate in seminars, workshops and other activities, giving them vital experience and exposure as musicians.
The Australian Music Centre chooses the Australian composers, who are funded by the Australia Council. SOUNZ selects the New Zealand composers, who are funded by Creative New Zealand. Host organisations assist with accommodation and other local requirements, and the two music centres work together to ensure that promotional opportunities resulting from the Exchange achieve the aims of the project.
