NZSO/Todd Corporation Young Composer AwardAwarded: 2005 |
Award Information
The NZSO/Todd Corporation Young Composer Awards are a unique opportunity for young New Zealand composers to have their work assessed by a panel of industry professionals, receive mentoring from an established New Zealand composer and have their work performed by the NZSO.
Composers under the age of 25 submit works for full symphony orchestra up to 5 minutes long. About ten works each year are chosen for the project. The composers come to Wellington to spend two days with the orchestra having their works performed and recorded.
Award offers up to two prizes of $750 – one for the most outstanding work which is decided by a panel of judges which includes the composer-mentor and conductor; and the other which recognises the composition that the orchestra players themselves judge to be of highest merit.
