Award Information

The IAMIC ‘Sounds of the Year’ is an annual list of works selected by the national Music Information Centres – all members of IAMIC, the International Association of Music Information Centres. Each year the focus is on a specific instrumentation and each participating centre selects one piece composed, usually, during the last ten years.

Information about each work is available on the IAMIC website and is intended to help performers and programmers choose and acquire works appropriate to their needs.

At some annual conferences a selection of these works is performed by an outstanding ensemble or choir.

SOUNZ chooses works for this list by bringing together a group of NZ musicians with relevant knowledge to choose a work for the list.

Established:2000
