Award Information

This is awarded to the winner of the Original Composition section of the contest. The winner will receive a SOUNZ prize of $500 cash and a one year subscription to CANZ (Composer’s Association of New Zealand). The winning piece will also be performed at the National Final.

Since 1971 an original composition competition has run concurrently, with student groups performing the scores written by secondary school composers. Many of our leading composers and performers feature amongst the winners since that time, including Donald Armstrong, Dan Poynton, Mark Menzies, Stephen de Pledge and Ross Carey .

Award Details

String Quartet No. 2 was awarded both the composition and performance prizes in the 2000 Chamber Music Contest.
