Wild Creations

Awarded: 2004

Award Information

Since 2001 Creative New Zealand and the Department of Conservation have been working in partnership to encourage links between conservation and the arts, by offering the Wild Creations programme.

Wild Creations is an artists in residency programme run by DOC and Creative New Zealand. Three six-week artist residencies are offered each year in a range of conservation sites. During a residency, artists will be free to explore the environment and the physical and creative challenges of their location.

The Wild Creations selection panel is made up of staff from Creative New Zealand, the Department of Conservation, and artist representatives. Creative New Zealand offers a stipend of $5000 and up to $2000 for travel and materials for each artist, while DOC organises accommodation and logistical support for the artists.

Award Details

Jordan Reyne used her Wild Creations residency in Karamea to undertake a musical research and writing project exploring the many kinds of relationships people have had and still have with the land. She wanted to articulate, through music, the emotions and experiences of the people that have lived on the West Coast through time.
