Douglas Lilburn PrizeAwarded: 2006 |
Award Information
This competition is administered and funded by Radio New Zealand Concert and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and has been held three times since 2000, when it was called the Music 2000 Prize. It was subsequently re-named for the 2003 competition in memory of Douglas Lilburn.
The competition is for New Zealand composers, and composers resident in New Zealand, to enter a newly composed symphonic score of approximately 8 to 12 minutes duration. A judging panel appointed by the two administrating organisations chooses finalists, whose works are all recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and broadcast on Radio New Zealand Concert. A substantial cash prize is awarded, judged by votes from the panel, audience, and orchestra. The winning entry is performed in a subscription concert and the winner is awarded a further commission from the NZSO. There are additional prizes for panel, audience and orchestra favourites, and each finalist is also awarded a prize.
