Venue Profile

Opened in 2001, the Academy of Performing Arts is Waikato’s award-winning performing arts venue. Located on the University of Waikato campus, on the eastern borders of Hamilton, it is set beside the beautiful tree-lined campus lake and hosts music concerts, theatre and dance performances, art and photography exhibitions, small and larger scale festivals, conferences and private dining functions. It also provides world-class facilities for the University of Waikato teaching programmes in Music, Theatre, Dance, and Māori Performing Arts.

Students, local community groups, national and international artists have full access to the Academy’s state-of-the-art venues and facilities. It also hosts a regular programme of art exhibitions alongside a more long-term collection of art works from the Wallace Charitable ArtsTrust.
