Profile
Ode Records was originally started in 1968 by Terence O’Neil-Joyce and has become the most specialised Record Company in the New Zealand music industry. Purchased by Roger Marbeck in 2007 we specialise in all genres ranging from rock and pop, jazz, blues, country, new age, Maori, Pacific, world, and classical. We have no boundaries when it comes to music – if we appreciate it then we will release it. We come from a strong retail background and therefore have a different aspect from major record companies. We have our own label which has a lot of historical content from Prince Tui Teka, Quincy Conserve,Mina Foley, Frank Gibson, Brian Smith, Johnny Devlin and many more. In the past years we have branched out with recordings from a lot of New Zealand developing talent – reggae from 1814, jazz from Norman Meehan, Alan Brown and the Vibrant Tongues, Te Vaka, Whirimako Black, Roy Phillips and the Peddlers,Wayne Mason, Ben Kemp, The Darlings, Cahnelle Davis,Moana and the Tribe, Darcy Perry Blues Band, Tami Neilson and many more. We also represent many local and overseas labels – ECM Records, Hyperion Records, Chandos, Charmaine Ford’s FMR Recordings, Rattle Records, Atoll records, Universal Childrens Audio, Rouge Records, Philip Glass’ Orange Mountain Records, Jasmine Records, Hanssler, Pagan Records, Red Rocks Records, Foreign Media Group and many more specilised labels.
