SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music provides services to promote the dissemination of music by New Zealand composers. It plays an active role in encouraging the commissioning of New Zealand music and undertakes some specific projects which result in the creation of new works. These are the Trans-Tasman Composer Exchange and the SOUNZ Community Commission.

The Centre for New Zealand music also engages in regular projects which involve the presentation of music by New Zealand composers. These include the NZSO-SOUNZ Readings (in collaboration with the NZSO) and the SOUNZ Contemporary Award (in collabration with APRA).
