Acclaimed for demonstrating “accomplished brilliance, soulfulness and sublime intensity in perfect balance and tonal unity” The Dominion Post, the Aroha String Quartet is firmly established as one of the finest ensembles at the forefront of New Zealand chamber music.

Founded in 2004 by four world-class Chinese professional musicians in their newly adopted country, this versatile ensemble is known for its passionate musicality, impressive technique, and multicultural innovations.

From 2009, Haihong Liu (violin), Beiyi Xue (violin) and Zhongxian Jin (viola) have been joined by cellist Robert Ibell. Alongside their busy schedule of orchestral and teaching duties, Aroha is highly committed to presenting string quartet works ranging from traditional Chinese folk music to western classical and avant-garde contemporary repertoire, as well as bringing the essence of chamber music to its audience by collaborating with numerous national and international high-profile musicians.
