Profile
CL BOB formed in 1994 and has members living in Wellington and around the world. The band combines jazz, folk, rock and avant-garde elements into an original and cohesive sound that can be expressive, challenging, or just plain fun. They have toured New Zealand extensively from the Far North to the Deep South (including Stewart Island) performing no less than ten national tours. CL BOB have performed at several Festivals throughout the country, including the Wellington International Jazz Festival. Internationally, CL BOB has performed as part of the 2001 Melbourne Jazz Festival and during 2004 to sell out crowds in Germany at the Polishen Versager Inn and Intersoup at Prenzlauerberg, Berlin.
In 2002, their second album release Stereoscope won the Tui Award for Best New Zealand Jazz Album of the year and their Fringe NZ Festival show incorporating the films of Len Lye, SCRATCH, was nominated for best multi media event. SCRATCH was subsequently performed at the City Art Gallery (Wellington) and as part of the 2003 New Zealand International Film Festival. In 2006 the band wrote and recorded music for the successful theatre piece “I Ain’t Nothing But / A Glimmer In The Dark, She Said by Whiti Hereaka /devised by Open Book Productions and directed by Grace Hoet & Amanda Hereaka CL BOB have released three albums of original work; CL BOB (1997), Stereoscope (2002) and The Great Flash (2005).
