Profile

Voices New Zealand (formerly known as TOWER Voices New Zealand) is the nationally selected chamber choir of the highest calibre for singers aged 26 years and over. The choir made its début at the 1998 New Zealand Festival, and later that year won gold and silver awards at the Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain.

Since then Voices New Zealand has performed on a number of occasions with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, including performances of the Faure Requiem, Poulanc’s Gloria, Gluck’s Orphee et Eurydice and The Bells by Rachmaninov.

Voices New Zealand presented sell-out concerts at the NZ International Arts Festivals in 2000 and 2002, participated in the International Chamber Music Festival in Auckland and Napier in 2000 and performed at the Otago Festival in October 2004.
The choir has produced four CDs to date. Their latest release, Spirit of the Land, featured New Zealand repertoire and won the ‘Best Classical Album’ category at the 2006 New Zealand Music Awards. Voices New Zealand has performed throughout New Zealand, as well as in New Caledonia with the NZSO, and at the Asia Pacific Symposium on Choral Music in Singapore.
In May 2005 the choir represented New Zealand at the 9th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany. In addition to performing at the New Zealand International Arts Festival in March 2006, the choir also participated in the NZSO Mozart Festival and performed in Christchurch with Christchurch City Choir. During 2007 the choir will visit Auckland, Taranaki and Nelson.
