Strike create and perform innovative New Zealand percussion ensemble music including stage shows, classical performances, collaborations with other artists such as dance, theatre and film, and school education.
Since its inception in 1998 Strike has pushed the boundaries of contemporary percussion performance with a unique and dynamic music that melds together a vast array of styles as diverse as classical, drum & bass, and Cook Island log drumming.
A number of New Zealand composers have created works for Strike, including David Downes , Gareth Farr, Ross Harris , Don McGlashan and Miriama Young , along with Strike members Murray Hickman and Tim Whitta.
Their first CD, ‘Strike’, was produced in 2000, and they performed Nga Tai Hurihuri on Gareth Farr’s CD ‘Warriors from Pluto’.
