Profile
Carol Hohauser, flutist, was born in 1964. She was educated in New York City at the Mannes College of Music, Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University before moving to Wellington, New Zealand in 1988. She played with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Wellington Sinfonia including many recordings and performances of new works.
She has had several works written for her by Christchurch composer Patrick Shepherd, which she has performed in New Zealand and Australia, the USA, Russia and Germany. She has also performed the Flute Concerto by Anthony Ritchie, Tense Melodies by Philip Norman and the Four Pooh Stories in Mexico at the Cervantino Festival in 1996. As a National Recording Artist with Radio NZ she researched unpublished works by NZ composers for premier recordings. Most notably she performed an early work by Christopher Norton and as a result the piece was published.
Carol has recently specialized in flute and guitar duo music with guitarist Matthew Marshall, as well as solo works for flute and alto flute. She was formerly principal flute with the Wellington Sinfonia and lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music and is currently residing in the USA as a doctoral student and Teaching Assistant at Columbia University in New York City.
