Biography

Carol Elizabeth Jones was born in Hamilton on the 18th April 1932 and began her musical education as a child on piano, later taking up violin and vocal performance. She trained as a primary school teacher at Ardmore Teachers College, Auckland, resigning from teaching in 1955 on marriage and children. Later she began singing again, eventually gaining professional status in operatic roles, as soloist in oratorio, and as recitalist throughout the country. Carol has appeared as a National artist on Concert Network of Radio New Zealand.

In 1975 she gained a BMus, which was followed by an MMus in vocal performance with first class hons the following year. At the University of Auckland, Carol took additional masters papers in composition and electronic music in 1977 and 1978. She was a part-time tutor in Music department between 1979-82; part-time lecturer at the Centre for Continuing Education, University of Auckland from 1981-3.
