Creative New Zealand is the national development agency for the arts. It works in a range of ways to develop and promote New Zealand art and artists, both at home and internationally. Its work includes funding for arts projects; support for professional arts organisations; developing audiences and markets for the New Zealand arts; research; and special initiatives such as residencies, awards and fellowships. Funded by the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board and the New Zealand Government, Creative New Zealand was established in 1994 replacing the former Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. It is an autonomous crown entity with a statutory responsibility to encourage, promote and support the arts for the benefit of all New Zealanders.
Creative New Zealand supports the development of New Zealand music in a range of different ways:
• Grants for composers/songwriters/arrangers to produce new work.
• Residencies.
• Support for composers and performers to feature in international conferences and festivals.
• Support for artists to produce new recordings.
• Support for the premiere performance of new work.
• Administers the Jack McGill and Butland Music scholarships for international postgraduate study and the Edwin Carr Foundation Scholarship for composers.
